“[The extinction of the dodos] illustrates the divine and felonious nature of the human being–a species of organism that is capable of unpicking the deepest secrets of the heavens while at the same time pounding into extinction, for no purpose at all, a creature that never did us any harm  and wasn’t even remotely capable of understanding what we were doing to it as we did it.” ~Bill Bryson, A Short History of Nearly Everything

My goal is to document just some of the beauty and marvels of the living world that surrounds us, either in celebration or in commemoration. There are all sorts of local faunal miracles that I want to know more about as they catch my eye, and I’ll write about them too.

I read. A lot, mostly about animals. So I’ll share some of those literature-inspired musings here as well.
